How to choose roof suppor

When you are selecting roof supports, several factors must be taken into account. If your roof is flat, different supports will be necessary than if it has a pitch. Likewise, the weight of the roof will influence the size and type of support needed. Lastly, local climate should be taken into consideration – if winds are high in your area you’ll require different supports than when winds are negligible.

Given the three elements to ponder over when deciding on your roof support system, let’s analyze each in further depth.

The stability of your roof will dictate the type of support you will require. With a flat roof, it is necessary to use a different kind of reinforcement compared to that of a pitched roof due to its lowered stability. Beams and trusses are the most common approaches for conferring extra protection. Supporting posts keep horizontal beams in place across the breadth of the roof, while beams along the length are backed by trusses. Therefore, it is essential that whichever method you select can bear the weight of the roof and keep it from shifting.

Estimated roof weight can play a crucial role in calculating the size and strength of support. Structures with heavier roofs necessitate larger, more substantial foundations. Determining the exact weight of a roof is simple, though there are three reliable methods. First, a look at the manufacturer’s specifications can provide insight into the weight of roofing materials. Alternatively, a basic calculation can be conducted by multiplying square footage by the weight per square foot of the roofing material. Lastly, a roofing contractor can be consulted to get precise measurements.

Where you live plays a major role in the type of support that’s necessary to ensure the security of your roof. Dry, wind-free regions require less protection while areas with roaring gusts require support that can withstand these mighty winds. Guy wires, hurricane clips, and tie downs are all essential elements, as constant winds can be incredibly hazardous and may even cause the roof to collapse if not properly supported. Why risk it? Invest in the proper support and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with safety.
